Q&A with Tolúlọpẹ́
Please introduce yourself and give a brief description about your current role/career
My name is Tolúlọpẹ́ and I run Coders of Colour, a not-for-profit organisation that teaches young people of colour to code for free. I have always been very interested in computers and started teaching myself to code at 13. I really love the endless possibilities you can have with code! I studied Mathematics and Computer Science at university. It was an interesting time, but definitely worth it. Running Coders of Colour, I organise and facilitate workshops and courses for young people of colour.
What is the worst moment of your career so far, how did you show resilience and bounce back?
I would say the worst moment so far has been being gaslit by a sponsor. In all honesty, being able to talk it out with people around me really helped. It allowed me to clear my head and focus on what is important - teaching young people to code.
What was the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Even if you don't have any money, you can always give someone your gratitude.
As the world is systematically changing, what does a future creative career look like after Covid-19?
A future creative career looks very digital. In this time, we will embrace digital media and events more than ever before.
